A perfect stop on your way South, Gin Gin is a Hinterland town 50km west of Bundaberg.  The weekly markets held every Saturday in the main street, offer loads of local produce. While you are there check out the old Courthouse, currently a community-run gallery space. Enjoy the countryside, vineyards and olive groves abundant in Gin Gin and the surrounds.

A gateway to great Barramundi fishing, Gin Gin is just 20 minutes south of the famed international fishing destination at Lake Monduran.

Attention Bird Watchers and Nature Lovers! Goodnight Scrub National Park is the perfect place to spot some 166 listed species of birds, including powerful owls, regent bowerbirds, forest kingfishers and king parrots, who share the wild with wallabies and abundant butterflies.

Keep an eye out for nesting turtles in season, who lay their eggs among the grassy dunes. Lake Barfield is a thriving bird sanctuary, home to black swans, white herons and egrets. Airlie Beach

The tropical resort town of Airlie Beach, the mainland hub of The Whitsundays, is filled with delicious restaurants, bars, and specialty shops, as well as the famous Airlie Beach lagoon.

Airlie Beach is a great base for the water tours of the Whitsunday Islands, including snorkeling, bareboating and exploring world-renowned Whitehaven Beach.

Try a birds-eye view with a scenic flight over Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet, The Great Barrier Reef, and Heart Reef.  Fishing fans will love Lake Proserpine, crowned the barramundi mecca of Queensland, or try some big game fishing on the open water. This quiet stretch of the Tropical North Queensland coast is the closest point to the Great Barrier Reef on the mainland. And nature lovers will enjoy the 26km Cardwell Forest Drive loops through the Girringun National Park, known for its spectacular waterfalls and secluded swimming holes (including the Spa Pool, a rock pool with a natural depression that causes the water to bubble like a jacuzzi).

Note: October to June, dangerous marine stingers (including box jellyfish) are found in the ocean off Mission Beach. During this time, swim only within netted areas.
